Replacing the old S1000R introduced in 2014, the new 2021 BMW S1000R is lighter and more sophisticated than ever before. Extracting the latest technologies and features from the most recent S1000RR (Supersport), the S1000R (Supernaked) has been significantly reworked and optimised for the streets. Featuring a 5kg lighter engine, the four-cylinder produces a peak power of 165hp at 11,000rpm and peak torque of 84.1lb-ft at 9,250rpm.
A reworked chassis shares many similarities with the RR, which again contributes to the overall 6.5kg weight reduction. A slimmer frame also claims for a slightly sharper steering geometry. With adjustable handlebar positions, the S1000R uses BMW’s Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) semi-active suspension. This is where the bike reacts automatically to braking, accelerating, and cornering on various road surfaces and automatically sets the correct level of damping to the suspension. It’s incredibly innovative technology that works to keep riders safer on the road.
An impressive 6.5 inch colour TFT display is an absolute treat to see, and beautifully visualises the dashboard elements. Here is where riders can change modes between Main, Road and Dynamic. The amount of personalisation owners have is rather extensive, allowing you to control engine braking, engine drag torque and just for fun... control ‘Power Wheelie’ mode.
To finish off the transformation, the new S1000R has been given a major facelift. With striking LED headlights, elegant bodywork, and stunning colour options, the S1000R aims to impress. With plenty of aftermarket add ons, such as the M Package, and the Carbon Package, riders are spoiled for choice.
